What you need to know about wireless security

The wireless network uses radio frequency signals to connect and anyone can eavesdrop on your network usage. This means that someone can potentially see your user name and password and whatever else you may be working on. The SU wireless network uses encryption only when you log into the network giving you a secure transmission and will continue to be secure on the wireless network.  If you open another page using any web browser it is important that you check to make sure that the site does offer encryption. You can tell if a site is encrypted by checking to see if there is a padlock present in the bottom right corner of the browser.

Security & Antivirus Software

Before trying to connect to the network you will need to have installed some type of anti-virus software onto your computer.  Keeping your computer secure and free from viruses is of utmost importance! Computers that become infected with viruses will compromise the network and will be denied service to the network. The anti-virus software is available at no cost to all faculty, staff and students. You should also install software for removing spyware.  Spyware is unwanted software that performs certain behaviors on your computer, such as advertising, collecting personal information, or changing the configuration of your computer, without obtaining your consent.
