Getting Connected
To
connect to the wireless network, you must
have:
-
Have a computer with the ability to add a wireless card

Have a properly configured 802.11b/g wireless networking card.
(internal/external)
-
Find an area where the wireless network is available. See the wireless
locations at
subr wireless map.

A username and password to obtain the network.
Computer Requirements
A wireless
network interface card (NIC) is necessary to access the campus wireless network.
Some computers have a built-in 802.11b or 802.11g NIC. In
addition; make sure that you install the latest drivers. Visit the
manufacturer's website for information about the latest drivers.
If your
computer does not have a built-in NIC, you will need to purchase a card that is
compatible with one or both of these wireless standards. The 802.11g standard is
faster (54Mbps), while the 802.11b is slower (11 Mbps). Cards are available for
both Windows and Macintosh. Follow the instructions provided by your
manufacturer to install the hardware and drivers on your computer.

Southern students,
faculty, and staff can log in using their current username
and password (firstname_lastname_00).
If you are unsure of your username or password,
please call the Help Desk.
The
goal is to allow only students or employees with a valid username to access the
university's wireless network with the appropriate hardware and configuration.
Wireless
Authentication
When
you connect to the wireless network, the first thing you
need to do is open a Web Browser. Once you do this, you
will automatically be redirected to an authentication
page to log in.

explicitly not authorized
to connect ANY wireless device anywhere on the Southern
University campus.
